Workshop on Promotion and Marketing of Library and Information Services and AGM 2015 at SUA Morogoro

COTUL chairperson is pleased to invite you to attend a Training Workshop on Promotion and Marketing of Information Services that will be held at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in Morogoro from 3rd to 5th December, 2015.

The objective of the workshop is to equip participants with promotion and marketing skills and knowledge that will enable them to increase clientele base and improve the quality of information services. The ultimate goal is to increase usage of library resources by the staff and researchers in our institutions.

The Workshop is organized by the Consortium of Tanzania University and Research Libraries (COTUL), and your institution is requested to facilitate your attendance with the following:

(i) Transport from your institution to and from Morogoro,

(ii) Subsistence allowance to up-keep you while in Morogoro and

(iii) Workshop registration fee of Tshs. 300,000/= for COTUL members   and

350,000/= for non members that will cover your meals, venue, conference and workshop materials including production of conference proceeding. The registration fee will be paid at the workshop in Morogoro.

Open Access week event at SAUT and CUHAS Mwanza Tanzania

The Consortium of Tanzania University and Research Libraries (COTUL) is planning to host a national OA week events in Mwanza on 30th October (a bit delayed due to unavoidable circumstances).  The event will involve two parallel public lectures one at Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) and the other at the Catholic University of health and allied sciences (CUHAS).  At SAUT we expect to have Lecturers, Librarians  and researchers from different part of Tanzania are expected to attend  while at CUHAS, Lecturers, Doctors and Medical students from CUHAS are expected to  attend. The CUHAS event has been organized by Medical Student association of Tanzania (TAMSA). See the event poster

In total we anticipate to sensitize over 200 academic staff and students.

We have actually started promoting the event using different materials including posters, brochures etc. We thank EIFL for their support and encouragement for making this happen. We’ll post more information as we go on.

Open Access Week Event for Tanzania

Open Access Week event in Tanzania will be held in parallel sessions at CUHAS and St. Augustine University-Malimbe Campus. The event will run simultaneously. At CUHAS Mr. Faisal Hooda and Ms Nyasatto will organize the event.  At SAUT. Prof. Dulle (Sokoine University-Morogoro) and Dr. Tandi Lwoga (MUHAS) will contunue facilitating the event where Lecturers, Librarians, IT personnel and students are expected to attend.

DIGITAL REPOSITORIES AND WEB 2.0 TECHNOLOGIES WORKSHOP-MUHAS,(1-4 October 2013)

Once again, the Directorate of Library Services at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) is organizing a workshop on digital repository and web 2.0 technologies.

Date: 1-4 October 2013

Organized by: Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), Directorate of Library Services
Course Fee for Tanzanians: 400,000 TShs
Course Fee for Non-Tanzanians: US$ 350

Overall Course objectives:
This four days workshop, designed for non-technologists, will introduce participants to the terminology and some of the software tools that support development of institutional repositories, optimizing access to content in digital library and repository through multilingual search strategies and Web 2.0 technologies.

Course Main Topics
1. Introduction to basic digital library, repositories and web 2.0 terminologies
2. Introduction to open source software: work with linux software
3. Work with dspace software to set up a digital repository
4. Multilingual online searches
4. Use web 2.0 tools (RSS feeds and alerts) to feature the contents of a repository
5. Online publishing (micro-blogging and blogging)

Who Should Attend? Professionals involved in information management, institutional management, librarians, lecturers ,project administrators and any other professional who has a use for digital repository in their work.

Training Format: Training over 4 consecutive days, Face to face in a group setting and practical sessions for online cataloguing tools, Attendance on all 4 days is required for certificate of completion
